Let's Talk series launches with North West students quizzing MLAs

The Assembly Education Service launched its latest series of ‘Let’s Talk’ events on Friday 25th November in the Holywell Trust, with over 90 sixth form pupils across Foyle, East Londonderry, and Mid Ulster constituencies.  The first event in the new series saw students from seven schools quiz a panel of MLAs on matters that are important to them and their local communities.

Education Committee ‘lends a hand’ to support Anti-Bullying Week 2016

The Committee for Education in partnership with the Assembly Education Service has today launched a special interactive art initiative, as part of a range of Committee activities, to highlight Anti-Bullying Week 2016.

MLAs and school groups visiting Parliament Buildings this week are being asked to contribute to the artwork by cutting around a signed outline of their hand and attaching it to a canvas so as to quite literally ‘Lend a Hand’ to support Anti-Bullying Week 2016.

How does the work of the Assembly’s Education Service support the Northern Ireland Curriculum?

The Assembly’s Education Service supports teaching and learning about the Assembly in the classroom and beyond. The Service is free and available to all school, youth and university groups. Through its Education Programme, the Assembly wants to increase awareness among young people of the relevance of the work of government institutions to their lives and to encourage them to get involved in the democratic decision-making process.

A/AS-Level Teacher Training - Tuesday 11 October 2016

We will be hosting a teacher training event for teachers of A/AS-Level Politics in the Long Gallery of Parliament Buildings on Tuesday 11th October 2016. This training is open to any of our colleagues who would like to broaden their general knowledge about the work of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the UK Parliament. Mock Council of the European Union 2016

The next Northern Ireland Mock Council of the European Union will take place on October 14th 2016. 

Schools from across Northern Ireland will come together to debate EU matters in Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

The new Assembly

The new Assembly, elected last Thursday, 5 May, meets today for the first time.

The 108 MLAs, including 31 new MLAs, will sign the register and designate as ‘Unionist’, ‘Nationalist’, or ‘Other’. They do this because certain decisions made by the Assembly require cross-community support.

Race to Stormont 2016

The big day is this Thursday 5 May. Voters across Northern Ireland will choose 108 MLAs to form the next Assembly. MLAs have a big impact on our lives, making laws about education, health, environment, agriculture, the economy and lots more.
