About the Northern Ireland Assembly Education Service

We provide free education programmes and resources for young people, teachers, youth leaders, or anyone who wants to learn about the role of the Assembly and the work we do.

Working with MLAs, the Education Service aims to engage with young people, helping them to understand how:

  • the Assembly is relevant to them;
  • democracy works; and
  • to take part in the democratic process.

We have designed our programmes and resources to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to influence decisions that concern them.

What we can do for you

Educational visits

Experience the Assembly and learn how it works.

Outreach visits to schools

Bring the Assembly to your classroom.

Teaching toolkit

You can access lesson suggestions linked to web-based multimedia activities, including games, animation, video, a comic and other printed material on our Teachers section.

Teachers’ seminars

Get new ideas for approaching citizenship and political literacy lessons with these free seminars. The sessions are also an opportunity for you to develop a greater insight into the workings of the Assembly.

Video conferencing opportunities

If you would like to give your pupils the opportunity to video conference with MLAs or Committees, contact the Education Service.

We have developed our programmes and resources in partnership with CCEA.  They support the Northern Ireland Curriculum in areas including Learning for Life and Work, Language & Literacy, Personal Development and Mutual Understanding, Government and Politics and History.
